TL;DR
Direct answer: A private AI platform hosts the same long task you already proved in a web console: identity, plan, SQL, files, resume, and quota, on hosts you operate. A branded chat widget in a VPC is not a private AI platform. Prove the isomorphic job first, then ask where that task id would live.
Isolation and credentials do not vanish because the skin is yours. This page is not a warehouse buy and not an ERP replacement.
What you'll learn:
- A definition of private AI platform you can take to architecture review
- The four objects: task id, SQL, files, keys
- Widget versus platform
- Steps to move one console task onto private hosts
- An illustrative dual-host desk
- Failure modes: no id, dual timeline, browser key
The hub on premise AI is the ladder of forms. This cluster is the on-prem agent shape.
What a private AI platform actually hosts
Key Definition: A private AI platform is the on-prem data-agent runtime that creates a long task on authorized sources, keeps plan and SQL on a reopenable id, writes downloadable files, and holds credentials and quota inside your boundary. It is not a chat iframe with your logo.
Public explainers such as Google Cloud’s overview of artificial intelligence describe models as components, not as products. A private AI platform is the product around the model: the job, the trail, and the veto. If those objects only exist in a SaaS console, you have not moved the platform. You have moved a window.
What a data agent is is the unit. A private AI platform is that unit on your hosts. Embed an AI data analyst is that unit in a product slot. Do not collapse the three pages. The shape is the same. The caller changes.
Machine-learning reviews such as the AWS Well-Architected Machine Learning Lens separate data, training, and serving. A private AI platform for analysis is mostly serving plus runtime: the agent must be operable. A lens that only scores the model miss the task id.
Data security and compliance still applies. A private AI platform that drops SSO “because it is inside” is a weaker install, not a safer one.
Object framework: task, SQL, files, keys
Score the install with four objects. A private AI platform is present only when all four have a home.
| Object | Widget | Private AI platform | Pass signal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Task id | Missing or ephemeral | Durable, same after refresh | Support can reopen |
| SQL / plan | Hidden | Named steps | Reviewer points at a step |
| Files | None or a paste | Workspace artifacts | Download matches the trail |
| Keys | In the browser or the iframe | Server / vault | Rotation without a redeploy |
The task id is the platform object
Operators store the id. A private AI platform that only stores the last paragraph has already thrown the job away. Resume needs the id. Quota needs the id. Audit needs the id. If the VPC chat cannot show one, you bought a widget.
Files are not a chat afterthought
Memos, driver tables, and charts are the deliverable. A private AI platform writes them next to the SQL. A widget that “can export” by screenshot is not a platform.
Widget vs private AI platform
| Need | Choose the widget | Choose a private AI platform |
|---|---|---|
| Branding in a VPC | Yes | Overkill |
| Replay next week | No | Yes |
| Kill and resume | No | Yes |
| Same shape as SaaS proof | No | Yes |
| SaaS data analytics already failed residency | Still a widget if no id | The move |
Choose a widget if you only need a box
If the requirement is “show AI in our portal,” a box can win a demo. Do not call it a private AI platform in the architecture review.
Choose a hosted private stack if the job must survive
If a controller must reopen last Tuesday’s join, you need the id and the files. That is the platform. Private AI tells you whether exits allow the move. This page tells you what must exist after the move.
Landscape around the same task shape
Observability systems such as Prometheus documentation exist because jobs have duration and failure. A private AI platform should emit the same honesty: queue depth, task age, resume count. A widget that only shows a typing indicator is not operable.
| Layer | Typical tool | Platform test |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Warehouse, file | Read-only grant |
| Runtime | Queue, worker | Task id survives a kill |
| Model | API or weights | Exit named |
| Client | Console, API, desktop | Same id |
| Metrics | Runtime metrics | Not a second BI suite |
Metrics are not the platform
CISA’s cybersecurity best practices start with inventory. Inventory the tasks, not the dashboards. A private AI platform that adds twelve KPI tiles and hides SQL has inverted the product.
Pandas is not the trail
Library docs such as pandas documentation describe frames. Frames are fine as an export. A private AI platform that lets the model rewrite the job as an unnamed notebook has lost the step a reviewer can point at. Keep compute in named SQL until export.
NIST’s Computer Security Resource Center is the independent map for control catalogs. Use it on the hosts: authn, audit, crypto. Do not invent a special “AI exception.”
Write a one-page object map before the install starts. Four boxes: where the id is stored, where SQL lives, where files land, where keys rotate. If a box is “the iframe,” stop. If a box is “we will add it in phase two,” you are signing a widget. Phase two rarely arrives with the same budget. The map should name the queue, the object store, and the console URL on your hosts. Those names are what support will search at 2 a.m. A logo in a VPC will not help them.
When you compare vendors, ask them to replay the same console-proven question on a sandbox you control. Do not accept a different demo question. Different questions hide missing objects. If the sandbox cannot show named steps, you do not have a platform candidate. If it can, freeze the screenshots next to the SaaS proof and keep both in the review pack. The comparison is shape, not fluency.
Staff the review with someone who will support the id at 2 a.m. If they cannot say where files land, the install is not operable. If they can, write their name on the object map. Operability is the difference between a platform and a painted chat. Do not leave that name blank because architecture already signed the network. Write the on-call rotation next to the id store.
How to prove the same task on private hosts
- Input: One console-proven question. Accept: Plan, SQL, files you already accept. Reject: No SaaS proof.
- Input: A diagram of where the task id will live on your hosts. Accept: Queue, store, console. Reject: “The iframe will remember.”
- Input: The same question asked on the private AI platform. Accept: Same grain, named steps. Reject: A new paragraph with no SQL.
- Input: Kill the worker. Accept: Resume on the same id inside quota. Reject: Blank chat.
- Input: Key rotation. Accept: Vault change, no browser redeploy. Reject: Key baked into the widget.
- Input: A written non-goal. Accept: Not replacing ERP. Not an unpublished SLA. Reject: Scope creep into system-of-record writes.
Desk sample: one console task, two hosts (illustrative)
Illustrative only. Not a customer result.
A finance partner asks why 8 cost centers moved. The console proof uses a ledger extract (illustrative 42k rows) and writes a driver table plus a memo. The pack graph has 88 edges. That is the job.
Do not treat 42k or 88 as capacity claims. They are a shape: the same objects must exist on the private hosts. If the candidate can only replay a one-line chat, it is a widget with a private label. Expected effort to score a candidate: one afternoon with a sanitized console pack and a network diagram. Success signal: the task id, SQL, files, and key store are named on your side of the boundary, and a killed worker resumes without a new story.
The same ask is then placed on a private AI platform candidate:
| Object | Console proof | Widget in VPC | Private AI platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Task id | Present | Lost on refresh | Present |
| SQL | Named views | Hidden | Named views |
| Files | Memo + CSV | Screenshot | Memo + CSV |
| Keys | Server | In the SPA | Vault |
Figure. Illustrative desk composite, not a customer result.
In this composite the widget fails three of four objects. Calling it a private AI platform would be a labeling error.
Scorecard: platform or painted chat
| Signal | Widget | Private AI platform | Out of scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same id as SaaS proof | No | Yes | — |
| Resume | No | Yes | — |
| Browser key | Common | Fail | — |
| Desktop client | Optional | Optional | Not air-gap by itself |
| Replace SAP | — | — | Refuse |
Choose A (widget) only for a branded demo. Choose B (private AI platform) when the four objects have homes. Refuse C.
Failure modes
VPC chat with no task id
The install looks internal. Support cannot reopen the join. A private AI platform without an id is a chat product. Do not sign the review.
A second prettier timeline
The portal stores a summary. The console stores SQL. They diverge after the first retry. A private AI platform has one timeline. Two stories are how audits die.
Keys in the widget
Obfuscation is not a control. A private AI platform keeps source credentials on the server that starts the task. A key in the iframe is a published key.
The hub on premise AI lists every form. Private AI is the exit map you fill before you ask for hosts. SaaS data analytics remains the proof you should already have.
Run the same task shape on private hosts
Prove one console task, then ask where that task id would live on your hosts. This check uses only sources you authorize.
Commercial association: You do not need the workspace to complete the educational diagnosis on this page.
After you prove the same question on authorized data, Book a Demo if the job must live on hosts you operate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a branded VPC chat a hosted stack?
Bottom line: No. A the hosted private runtime hosts a durable task id, SQL, files, and keys. A skin is a widget.
Do we still prove the job in SaaS?
Bottom line: Yes. A the hosted private runtime moves a known shape. It does not invent the first trail.
Can the widget hold the warehouse key if we minify it?
Bottom line: No. Keys stay on the server. A the hosted private runtime that ships a key to the browser has failed.
Does a the hosted private runtime replace our ERP?
Bottom line: No. Sources stay sources. The platform reads. It is not an Oracle or SAP replacement.
Is desktop the same as a the hosted private runtime?
Bottom line: No. Desktop is a client. A the hosted private runtime is the runtime that holds the id. The client may be a browser or an app.
Conclusion
A the hosted private runtime is the on-prem data agent: the same long task, the same trail, the same files, on hosts you operate. A VPC chat widget is a label. Isolation, credentials, resume, and quota still exist. Prove the job in the console. Then place the id.
If you later use the workspace, open InfiniSynapse only with authorized, sanitized inputs. After that proof, Book a Demo if the task must live on your hosts.
