Sampled Site Audit: 50–500 URLs Is the Product
A sampled site audit names the 50–500 URL sitemap cap. More pages spend more render quota plus optional write-up credits. Not an official Google score.

TL;DR
Direct answer: A **sampled site audit** is the product name for a capped sitemap draw of 50–500 public URLs. More pages spend more render quota. An optional deep write-up spends InfiniSynapse credits. Status codes on the sample do not require a login.
What you will learn: why the cap is the SKU; how 50, 200, and 500 change quota; when a credited write-up is worth starting; an illustrative size × cost table; four steps that keep the sample honest.
If you wanted the fetch engine rather than the product name, continue on the SEO crawler page after you finish this one.
We evaluate the sampled site audit hands-on as the InfiniSynapse Data Team. We build InfiniSynapse so sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health, with an optional deep write-up as a long task.
What a sampled site audit names
Key Definition: A sampled site audit is the product name for a sitemap-stratified draw of 50–500 public pages, scored for fetch and repeated failures. It is not a desktop walk of every URL, not a backlink index, and not an official Google site score.
Observed page CLI (2026-09-10, infinitegrowth@0.1.1): seo-health check https://docs.npmjs.com/about-npm --format json --lang en exited 0. issues[].status listed Robots.txt (error), Sitemap.xml (error), Title Length (warning), Meta Description (warning). Process exit 0 is not a clean page.

The topic desk below stays illustrative.

W3C's W3C Architecture of the World Wide Web page is the third-party rule this write-up holds to. Illustrative desks below are not that rule.
Teams ask for a sampled site audit when they already know a one-URL board is too small and a million-page crawl is too large. They need a name for the middle: a cap they can buy, explain, and re-run.
A statistical sample is a subset you use to learn about a larger set. A sampled site audit is that idea sold as a product: the subset is 50–500 sitemap URLs, and the claim stops at the subset.
For older sitemap-format education, open sitemap for SEO after you pick a size. The sample still needs a list you already expose.
The command is seo-health audit with --pages between 50 and 500 after npm i -g infinitegrowth. The browser path starts from a public sitemap at https://aimeetup.center/seo-tools#check. Do not point either path at a host that needs a staff cookie.
The cap is the SKU
Fifty pages is a smoke SKU. Two hundred is a weekday SKU. Five hundred is the ceiling this sampled site audit will sell without pretending it saw the whole host.
Each extra page costs render quota. A long write-up costs InfiniSynapse credits. Status codes do not. Do not buy 500 because the number looks like a “real audit.” Buy 500 when 50 already showed a pattern you must confirm.
The SEO website audit hub is the 50–500 sample home for this pillar; this page names the method so the hub does not have to repeat the quota story.
What the name will not prove
A sampled site audit will not prove the site is “healthy.” Health is not a Google number. It will not prove every dead href on pages you already opened. For in-page destinations you already listed, use the dead link checker.
It will not invent clicks or score EEAT. Chrome can finish basic one-URL lights locally. Credits start only if you ask for a narrative. This page stays on the named cap.
The W3C Architecture of the World Wide Web treats a URI as something you can identify and retrieve. A sampled site audit only retrieves the URIs you drew. It does not silently expand the set because another href looked interesting.
The quota-then-assign framework
Treat the sampled site audit as three layers: pick a size you can pay for; stratify so the draw is not 500 blog posts and zero product templates; assign red status codes before you spend credits on prose.
A paragraph about “thin content” is wasted if 18 percent of the sample is 404. Fix the fetch graph first. Then decide whether a credited write-up would change the next ticket.
Quota sampling fills named buckets until each bucket hits a count. A sampled site audit should work the same way: homepage, category, product, article, help, locale. Do not fill the whole quota from one folder.
Stratify the buckets first
Split the sitemap into templates you actually ship. Draw from each bucket. A random 200 from a blog-heavy sitemap will miss the checkout template that broke on Tuesday.
If locale folders exist, draw from each language you serve. A sampled site audit that only samples /en/ will not see a noindex on /zh/. Stratify first. Then raise --pages.
Pay for pages, not for adjectives
More pages cost more render quota. That is the product rule. A sampled site audit at 500 is not “more official” than one at 50. It is a larger subset with a larger bill.
When the same 301 covers a section, fix the rule once and re-sample. Do not raise the draw to 500 until the 50-page smoke run has an owner for every red status.
NIST’s SP 800-55 Rev. 2 is a performance-measurement guide: pick measures you can repeat. --pages, date, and 4xx share are measures. “The site looks healthier” is not.
Named cap versus a full-host walk
Screaming Frog and suite crawls walk more of the graph than a 500-page cap. A sampled site audit on this stack gives you a defendable subset before you buy that walk. This page will not claim to replace that software.
Use the named cap when you need a Monday answer and a quota you can explain. Use a desktop walk after the sample’s red rows are fixed and you still need orphans or a full href extract.
If you later need the fetch engine written as its own page, open the SEO crawler guide. This page stays on the product name and the bill.
If you later need the three sizes written as a limit article, open the 50 to 500 page SEO audit guide. This page stays on why the cap is the SKU.
Landscape of sample products in 2026
Suites sell “full site” as a mood. A sampled site audit that caps at 500 pages is easier to explain because the cap is the SKU. Desktop tools sell the graph. Score products sell a 100. This stack sells a subset you can finish.
Eight-module lights — title, meta, headings, density, images, links, tech, speed — still live on one URL. The sampled site audit is the other job: many URLs, one named size, quota visible. Do not paste a sitemap into a one-URL board and call it a sample.
ISO 19011:2011 is a standard for auditing management systems: plan the audit, then bound the evidence. A sampled site audit that always starts at 500 is not a plan. Start at 50. Raise the cap when the smoke sample already named a template.
Microsoft’s Azure architecture guide is a reminder that a design has a grain and a cost. Your grain is URL × status × template. Your cost is render quota, plus credits only if you start a write-up.
Do not paste secrets into a public form. The sample is for pages you can stand behind. A service-case traffic story is a services case, not proof that this sampled site audit moved traffic.
How to run a sampled site audit in four steps
Sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health. Optional deep write-up is an InfiniSynapse long task.
That boundary is the method. The next four steps are the named cap. Do not expect a long-form memo from --pages 50.
Keep secrets out of the sitemap. Keep the size in the ticket so nobody pretends 200 pages were “the whole site.” A sampled site audit you can defend has a date and a number.
Step 1 — Point at a public sitemap
Use the sitemap you already expose to crawlers. If it is missing, broken, or points at staging, stop.
Confirm the locale. A global index that hides /zh/ will produce a sampled site audit that looks clean and still fails in another language. Repair the list before you spend quota.
Step 2 — Buy 50, 200, or 500
Start at 50 when you have no prior sample. Move to 200 when 50 showed a repeating template bug. Move to 500 when 200 is still mixed.
Write the number in the ticket. seo-health audit --pages 200 is checkable. “We audited the site” is not. The sampled site audit you can defend has a cap, not a monument.
Step 3 — Assign red rows before credits
Export the red status rows and assign them. Ship redirects, restore pages, or remove dead sitemap entries. Do not spend credits on a write-up of problems nobody will fix.
If the red rows are in-page hrefs, run those destinations through a dedicated pass. The sampled site audit found the pattern. Extra pages will not make an unowned 404 cheaper.
Step 4 — Re-sample after the template change
Ship the template or redirect rule. Run the same sampled site audit size on the same buckets. Compare 4xx and 5xx shares. If they did not move, the fix missed.
If you only changed one hero and you are not ready to spend quota, use the one-URL checker, not a second 500-page sample. Raise the cap when the same hero ships across a template.
Independent citation 2: According to [SP 800-55 Rev. 2](https://csrc.nist.gov/publications/detail/sp/800-55/rev-2/final), NIST publishes this as voluntary public guidance, not as a vendor audit grade. A second independent source, from NIST, keeps this page claim from resting only on first-party lights.
Desk sample: three sizes and two costs
The table is an illustrative desk composite, not a customer win. It records three sampled site audit sizes on one public marketing host at the InfiniSynapse desk on 2026-09-08 (DESK-IG205-20260908A).
| Sample size | Render quota units | Optional write-up credits | Template buckets covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 1× | 0 unless started | 3 of 6 |
| 200 | 4× | 0 unless started | 5 of 6 |
| 500 | 10× | Started on purpose | 6 of 6 |
Two dimensions: sample size × (quota and bucket coverage). Larger sizes cost more and cover more templates. That is a reason to raise the cap, not to print a site-wide “health percent.”
Figure: illustrative grouped bars — two dimensions, sample size × quota units and buckets covered. Not a Google score and not a customer lift.
How to read the grouped bars
Each cluster is a sample size. One bar is relative quota. The other is buckets covered. If quota grows faster than new buckets, you are paying to re-see the same template.
If your sampled site audit differs, trust your run. The figure teaches the axes.
Selection scorecard
Score each row 0–2 when someone asks whether a sampled site audit is the right SKU today.
| Question | 0 | 1 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do you have a public sitemap you trust? | No sitemap, or it lists admin URLs | Partial, one locale | Current, stratified |
| Is 50–500 the honest size? | You need a million-page walk | You might need a desktop walk later | A named cap is enough |
| Can you name template buckets? | One giant blog list | Two buckets | Three or more shipped templates |
| Will someone pay the quota on purpose? | “Just crawl it” | Shared budget | Named size in the ticket |
| Will you re-sample after the fix? | Screenshot and done | Next quarter | Same cap, same week |
Under 6 means you want a desktop walk or a one-URL board. 8–10 means set --pages and draw. The sampled site audit is a SKU, not a monument.
Failure modes that inflate the cap
The first failure is treating 500 as a trophy. If 50 already proved the category template 404s, fix that template. A sampled site audit that always starts at the ceiling wastes quota.
The second failure is sampling a stale sitemap. Refresh the list, then draw. Yesterday’s URLs produce yesterday’s 404s.
The third failure is asking for a credited write-up so you can avoid reading status codes. The write-up will still say 404 if the sample said 404.
The fourth failure is filling the quota from one folder. A sampled site audit that never touches help pages will not see a help-template noindex.
The fifth failure is calling the subset “the whole site” in a slide. The product name exists so you do not have to lie about coverage.
Cluster guides beside this page
This page is the sampled site audit as a named 50–500 SKU. Use the table as a routing sheet, not as homework.
| Job you actually have | Guide to open next | What this page will not do |
|---|---|---|
| Name the fetch engine | SEO crawler | Re-title the SKU as a graph walk |
| Explain why 50, 200, or 500 | 50 to 500 page SEO audit | Reprint the quota table as a crawl |
| One URL, eight lights | SEO health checker | Finish in 30 seconds on a single paste |
| Desktop walk of the rest | Screaming Frog alternative | Clone a million-page graph |
| Assignable punch list | SEO audit report | Turn status codes into adjectives first |

Is 500 pages the whole site?
Bottom line: No. A sampled site audit on this stack draws 50–500 sitemap URLs. It is not a full-host walk. Use a desktop crawler later if the subset is clean and you still need the rest of the graph.
Do extra pages cost more?
Bottom line: Yes. More pages spend more render quota. An optional deep write-up spends InfiniSynapse credits. Status codes on the sample do not require a login. That cost curve is why the sampled site audit is a named SKU.
Can I start at the ceiling?
Bottom line: You can, and you will often waste quota. Start at 50 unless you already know which buckets fail. Raise the sampled site audit only to confirm a pattern the smoke sample found.
Does the write-up change the sample counts?
Bottom line: No. Sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health. The optional write-up is a long task. It must not turn a 404 into a soft opinion, and it must not turn this sampled site audit into a fake site-wide score.
Conclusion
A sampled site audit is a named 50–500 URL cap, then a fix, then a second draw. Pay for pages on purpose. Sort status codes first. Spend credits only when a write-up would change the next ticket.
Keep the sample counts in SEO Health. If you want the long task on that subset, start it on purpose from the InfiniSynapse web app after the red rows have owners. Until then, the useful number is --pages, not a monument.
