SEO Site Audit: Stratify Templates Before You Scale

An SEO site audit stratifies your templates, then samples 50–500 sitemap pages so you do not scale from a homepage-only pass. Not an official Google score.

SEO site audit stratifying homepage, product, article, and help templates before a 50 to 500 page sample

TL;DR

Direct answer: An **SEO site audit** on this stack is a site-level sample: you name the templates you ship, draw 50–500 URLs from each bucket, then read status codes before you scale. It is not a homepage-only paste. It is not a million-page crawl. More pages spend more render quota.

What you will learn: why an SEO site audit must stratify before it grows; what a homepage-only pass misses; when 50, 200, and 500 are honest; an illustrative template × 4xx-share table; four steps to a second draw from the same buckets.

Open https://aimeetup.center/seo-tools#check and point at a public sitemap you can stand behind. For older sitemap-format education, use the sitemap for SEO page.

We evaluate an SEO site audit hands-on as the InfiniSynapse Data Team. We build InfiniSynapse so sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health, with optional deep write-up as a long task.

What an SEO site audit covers

Key Definition: An SEO site audit here is a stratified sample of 50–500 public pages drawn from the templates you actually ship. It is not a homepage-only check, not a desktop walk of every URL, and not an official Google site score.

Observed page CLI (2026-09-10, infinitegrowth@0.1.1): seo-health check https://infinisynapse.cn/ --format json --lang en exited 0. issues[].status listed Title Length (warning), Image Alt Text (warning), Meta Description (warning). Process exit 0 is not a clean page.

Independent citation: According to [Sampling in statistics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sampling_(statistics)), statistical sampling studies a subset when a full census is not the job. Wikipedia's Sampling in statistics page is the third-party rule this write-up holds to. Illustrative desks below are not that rule.

People ask for an SEO site audit when a template shipped last Tuesday and they do not know how wide the damage is. They need to know whether 404s cluster on product pages, whether help URLs inherited a noindex, and whether the article template still has an H1. They do not need 200,000 rows that are 90 percent blog posts.

Sampling in statistics is the practice of studying a subset when a census of every URL is too expensive, and that is the honest job of an SEO site audit on this stack.

If you only needed the cap and the status-code habit, open the 50–500 page sample hub and come back when the question is which templates to draw.

Site-level means more than the homepage

A homepage paste answers tonight’s hero. An SEO site audit answers whether the same bug lives on category, product, article, help, and locale URLs. Mixing those jobs wastes a week.

Fifty pages that are 40 homepage variants and 10 product URLs is not site-level. It is a homepage cluster with decoration. Name the buckets before you set the SEO site audit --pages.

What a homepage-only pass misses

A homepage-only pass will not see a 404 on URL 187. It will not see a help-template canonical that points at /en/ from /zh/. It will not see a product title pattern that repeats 80 times.

An SEO site audit that never touches those buckets will print a calm table and still fail after launch. Stratify first. Then raise the cap.

Do not retarget a reversed phrase from older briefs on this page. The job is a site-level sample, not a slogan swap.

The stratify-then-scale framework

Treat an SEO site audit as three layers: named templates, a draw from each bucket, and a cap you raise only after the smoke sample has owners. Skip the names and the draw becomes a blog lottery.

A stratified sampling design draws from each named group so a large cluster cannot drown a small but shipped template.

Name the template buckets

Write the templates you ship this quarter: homepage, category, product, article, help, locale. An SEO site audit that cannot name three buckets is not ready for 200 pages.

If you added a pricing page or a docs section last month, add that bucket. Yesterday’s list will sample yesterday’s site.

The Elasticsearch getting started lesson is that an index is useful only after you decide what a document is; here a document is one URL in a named template.

Draw from each bucket

Split the sitemap, then draw. Do not take the first 200 URLs in file order. Blog-heavy sitemaps will fill the SEO site audit before checkout appears.

If locale folders exist, draw from each language you serve. A sample that only opens /en/ will not see a noindex on /zh/. Stratify locales the same way you stratify templates.

When the question is which product to buy for that draw, continue on SEO audit tool. Stay here when the search was for the site-level habit.

Scale only after the smoke sample

Start at 50 across the buckets you named. If 50 already proved the product template 404s, fix that template. Do not scale an SEO site audit to 500 to admire the same 404.

Two hundred is the weekday size once 50 showed a pattern you must confirm. Five hundred is the ceiling this product will sell as site-level without pretending it saw the host.

For in-page destinations a bucket already listed, use the dead link checker instead of raising --pages to hunt every href.

Site-level sample versus homepage-only

A one-URL paste is the right instrument when you changed a hero. An SEO site audit is the right instrument when that hero shipped as a template. Mixing them produces a screenshot of the homepage and a story about “the site.”

The Snowflake getting started guide walks a warehouse you query by statement; keep the same habit when you query template buckets instead of starring the homepage.

Use the paste when you need lights in about 30 seconds on one public URL. Use the site-level sample when the same title, heading, or redirect rule may live on dozens of URLs.

This page will not walk the rest of the graph. If you later need orphans or a fuller fetch, that article is SEO crawler. An SEO site audit stops at the cap you wrote down.

Landscape of site-level checks in 2026

Suites sell “the whole site” as a mood. Homepage extensions sell a badge. An SEO site audit that names buckets and caps the draw is easier to defend because the strata are the product.

The Databricks introduction starts from a workspace and a grain you can name, not from a single trophy metric for the whole lake.

Browser, CLI, and Chrome share one method. The browser form teaches: paste a sitemap, pick a cap, read the table by template. The CLI repeats: seo-health audit --pages 50 after npm i -g infinitegrowth. Chrome stays local unless you start AI EEAT.

EEAT, visibility, and Search Console analysis need an InfiniSynapse login and credits. Do not expect those jobs from a free sample. Do not paste cookies, preview tokens, or admin hosts.

An SEO site audit will not invent clicks. It will not score EEAT. It will not reprint a Google 100. A service-case traffic story is not product proof for this checker.

Eight modules still appear on sampled 200s: title, meta, headings, density, images, links, tech, and speed. Read fetch first on an SEO site audit. Then read the module that fails inside a bucket.

How to stratify a sample in four steps

Sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health. Optional deep write-up is an InfiniSynapse long task.

That boundary is the method. The SEO site audit in the next four steps is the free stratified draw. Do not expect a long-form memo from --pages 50.

Step 1 — List the templates you ship

Write homepage, category, product, article, help, and every locale you serve. If a template is not on the list, the SEO site audit will not see it.

Use the sitemap you already expose to crawlers. If it is stale or points at staging, stop. Confirm the list includes the templates you shipped this month.

Open https://aimeetup.center/seo-tools#check only with a public host you can stand behind.

Step 2 — Draw from each bucket at 50

Start at 50 when you have no prior sample. Pull from every named bucket, even if a bucket is small. An SEO site audit that skips help pages because they are few will miss a help-template noindex.

Write the buckets and the cap in the ticket. “We checked the site” is not checkable.

Step 3 — Sort red rows by template, then fix

Export 5xx and 4xx grouped by bucket. Assign the template owner, not a shared inbox. Then list repeating module failures on the remaining 200s.

If one bucket is red and the others are clean, fix that template. Do not scale the SEO site audit to hide a single broken layout.

Step 4 — Re-draw the same buckets

Ship the template or redirect rule. Run the same SEO site audit size on the same buckets. Compare 4xx and 5xx shares per template.

The Prometheus first steps treat a scrape as a bounded collect you can compare over time, which is the second-draw habit after you ship a template fix.

If the shares did not move, the fix missed. Do not raise --pages to hide that.

Independent citation 2: According to [stratified sampling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratified_sampling), stratified sampling draws from subgroups so the sample keeps those shares. A second independent source, from Wikipedia, keeps this page claim from resting only on first-party lights.

Desk sample: templates versus status

The table is an illustrative desk composite, not a customer win. It records one SEO site audit draw on a public marketing host at the InfiniSynapse desk on 2026-09-08 (DESK-IG203-20260908A).

TemplateShare of 200-page sample4xx share inside the bucket
Homepage cluster8%0%
Product40%22%
Article35%6%
Help17%14%

Two dimensions: template × 4xx share. The homepage cluster looked clean. Product carried the leftover 404s. A homepage-only pass would have missed the row that mattered.

Illustrative grouped bars of SEO site audit templates by sample share and 4xx share

Figure: illustrative grouped bars — two dimensions, template × sample share and 4xx share. Not a Google score and not a customer lift.

How to read the grouped bars

Each cluster is a template. One bar is how much of the sample that template filled. The other is how much of that bucket returned 4xx.

If your SEO site audit run differs, trust your run. The figure teaches the axes. A tall product 4xx bar is a template ticket, not a site-wide “health percent.”

Selection scorecard

Score each row 0–2 when someone asks whether an SEO site audit is the right instrument today.

Question012
Can you name three or more shipped templates?Homepage onlyTwo bucketsThree or more, including locale
Is 50–500 the honest size? You need a million-page walkYou might need a desktop crawl laterA cap is enough to start
Will each bucket get a draw?First 200 URLs in file orderTwo buckets, rest is leftoverNamed draw per template
Will red rows get a template owner? No ownerShared inboxNamed owner per bucket
Will you re-draw the same buckets?Screenshot and doneNext quarterSame cap, same week

Under 6 means you want a homepage paste or a desktop crawl. 8–10 means name the buckets and draw. The SEO site audit is a stratified slice, not a monument.

Failure modes that hide a template

The first failure is sampling only the homepage cluster. An SEO site audit that never touches help pages will not see a help-template noindex.

The second failure is taking the first 200 URLs in sitemap order. Blog-heavy lists will drown product and checkout.

The third failure is treating 500 as a trophy. If 50 already proved the product template 404s, fix that template.

The fourth failure is asking for a credited write-up so you can avoid grouping rows by bucket. The write-up will still say 404 if the sample said 404.

The fifth failure is pasting a host that needs a staff cookie. Chrome can finish basic modules locally. Do not upload an admin URL and then complain about credits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a homepage paste enough?

Bottom line: No. A homepage paste answers one URL. An SEO site audit on this stack is a stratified 50–500 sample. Use the paste when you changed a hero; use the site-level draw when that hero shipped as a template.

How many templates should I name?

Bottom line: At least three you actually ship, plus each locale you serve. An SEO site audit that only names “blog” and “other” will miss checkout, help, and category failures.

Can I start at five hundred pages?

Bottom line: You can, and you will often waste quota. Start at 50 across the buckets you named. Raise the SEO site audit only to confirm a pattern the smoke sample found.

Does the write-up change status codes?

Bottom line: No. Sampling and status codes stay in SEO Health. The optional write-up is a long task. It must not turn a 404 into a soft opinion.

Conclusion

An SEO site audit is a stratified 50–500 page sample, then a fix, then a second draw from the same buckets. Name the templates. Sort status codes first. Spend credits only when a write-up would change the next ticket.

Keep the fetch graph in SEO Health. If you want the long task on that sample, start it on purpose from the InfiniSynapse web app after the red rows have owners. Until then, the useful number is --pages per bucket, not a homepage screenshot.
