What are size-related returns?什么是尺码相关退货?

Size-related returns are returns where the shopper reports that apparel, footwear, or another fitted product is too small, too large, uncomfortable, incompatible, or otherwise does not fit as expected. Analyze them with variant-level sales denominators, product and size-chart versions, measured dimensions, category-specific reason detail, and equal maturity. A fit reason alone does not prove that the product or chart is wrong.

Fit is a relationship among intended body dimensions, product dimensions, ease, construction, material behavior, style preference, activity, and customer expectation. ISO’s clothing-size work distinguishes body-measurement-based size designation from garment dimensions and notes that target-population distributions and body shapes matter. Do not treat a nominal label such as S or 8 as a universal measurement.

Each possibility requires a different field and intervention.

Shopify exposes category-specific reasons such as “too big” and “too small” for apparel. Use that detail as a customer signal, then join product and content evidence instead of relabeling the response as a confirmed sizing defect.

Use fit reasons that distinguish direction and mechanism使用能区分方向与机制的合身原因

A single “does not fit” code hides useful direction. Keep a stable fit family and a short category-specific second level. Avoid forcing customers to know technical garment construction. Preserve multiple concerns and a primary reason because length, width, shape, comfort, and style can interact.

Build a size-return dataset in seven steps用七步建立尺码退货数据集

  1. Define the fit event and unit定义合身事件与单位

Variant fit-return rate (%) = Units returned with qualifying fit reasons ÷ Eligible fulfilled units for the same variant cohort × 100

Also publish total returns, all-cause return rate, fit-reason share, reason coverage, too-small/too-large direction, returned value, contribution loss, exchange destination, and maturity. A reason share among returns cannot replace the fulfilled-unit rate.

A synthetic medium variant has 2,000 mature fulfilled units and 180 returns; 108 are coded fit-related, including 70 too small. A matched earlier content cohort had 1,900 fulfilled units and 133 returns, including 52 fit-related and 30 too small. Product measurements remain within the approved synthetic tolerance.

The current cohort has higher observed fit and too-small rates. In-tolerance product measurements weaken a simple manufacturing-drift hypothesis but do not prove content caused the increase. Check traffic and customer mix, policy, size-chart exposure, material/batch coverage, question version, and uncertainty; then test a clarified fit note on comparable traffic.

Treat fit as a product-content-customer interaction把合身视为商品—内容—客户交互

Do not infer individual body shape from a return label or use sensitive attributes to restrict service. Analyze product- and content-level evidence first. When customer data is necessary, use transparent purpose limitation, consent where required, minimum fields, access controls, retention limits, aggregation, and fairness checks across policy outcomes.
