What is return processing cost?什么是退货处理成本?
Return processing cost is the labor, consumables, equipment, facility, and exception expense required to receive, identify, inspect, test, clean, repackage, grade, and route a returned item. Calculate it at case or unit level and state whether transport, refund, product write-down, storage, and final disposal are included or excluded.
退货处理成本是收货、识别、质检、测试、清洁、重新包装、分级与路由退回商品所需的人工、耗材、设备、设施与异常费用。应在案例或件数层计算,并声明运输、退款、商品跌价、仓储与最终报废是否纳入。
The metric supports warehouse staffing, workflow, automation, outsourcing, SKU handling, and disposition decisions. It is not a complete cost-of-returns metric unless every other component is deliberately added. Measure cycle time beside cost so work is not merely delayed out of the reporting window.

Define the start event as carrier handoff, dock receipt, or first warehouse scan. Define closure as restock-ready, transfer to refurbishment, return to vendor, liquidation, donation, or disposal. If transport or long-term storage sits with another owner, expose it in adjacent fields instead of silently absorbing it.

Direct labor can use observed minutes by activity multiplied by approved loaded rates. Allocate equipment and facility cost with a driver that reflects use—such as occupied station minutes, units, cubic volume, or storage days. Publish the driver and capacity assumption; utilization changes unit cost even when the workflow does not.

Lower processing cost can result from faster work, less inspection, lower labor rates, more incomplete cases, or reduced quality. Pair cost with cycle time, accuracy, rework, customer dispute, restock yield, recovery value, and open-case share. The best workflow is not necessarily the one with the fewest touches.
