Geodemographic segmentation adds population or household characteristics to geographic units. It can make area profiles more useful, but it also increases the risk of ecological fallacy: the average profile of a neighborhood does not describe every resident. Geographic, demographic, behavioral, and psychographic segmentation answer different questions. Geography asks where and under what spatial conditions; demographics ask who; behavior asks what people did; psychographics investigate why they may prefer or decide differently.
